Meet Our New Principal and Associate Principal!

Principal Edith Brumant

Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about Horace Mann Elementary School. My name is Edith Brumant and it is with excitement and gratitude that I join the Horace Mann community as the new principal for the 2023-2024 school year. I value shared leadership, diversity, and a culture of belonging. I believe in the power of human connection and that we all play an important role in student success. I will strive to continue Mann’s legacy of excellence while guiding us to a more inclusive tomorrow.

I have been in education for the past 14 years starting off as a private school ML teacher for government workers and later for international students. After earning my public school teaching credentials in my Canadian hometown of Ottawa, I moved to the PNW to join my husband who was already working here as a software engineer. I have been an ML teacher/interventionist and 5th grade classroom teacher with highly capable students in a cluster model. In 2018, I earned my Masters in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University and immediately joined LWSD. For the first two years I served as an associate principal for both Juanita and Helen Keller and then transitioned to Juanita full time for the past 3 years.

On a personal note, my husband Kamara and I live in Renton with our bubbly 6-month-old daughter, Zoë. Together we are loving our enhanced family unit. We are travel bugs and Zoë has already spent quality time in Florida, Mexico, and Canada. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie and enjoy the arts in all its forms.

I look forward to joining the community and to your partnership in serving students.

Yours in service,

Edie Brumant

Associate Principal Sarah Wiegand

Dear Mann Elementary Community,

I am thrilled to join the Horace Mann Elementary community this year as the new Associate Principal! This will be my second year in LWSD and this past year I served students as the full-time Associate Principal at the Emerson Campus: Emerson High School, Northstar Middle School, and Emerson K-12. Next year, I will be splitting my time evenly between Mann and Emerson Campus.

Prior to joining LWSD, I served students and families in Seattle Public Schools and in Vashon Island Public Schools. I have experience being a 2nd grade teacher, Multilingual Specialist for K-8 students and a Highly Capable Specialist for K-8 students. I have also taught in multilingual schools in Spain and Finland.

Outside of work, I am an avid baker and enjoy travelling all over the world! When it comes to sports, I am a conflicted UO Duck and UW Husky and I love going to the Seattle Kraken games with my husband! I look forward to partnering with you all and serving the Mann Community next year!

Best,

Sarah Wiegand (she/her)
