Meet Our Principal and Associate Principal!

Principal Edith Brumant

Thank you for visiting our website to learn more about Horace Mann Elementary School. My name is Edith Brumant and it is with excitement and gratitude that I join the Horace Mann community as the new principal for the 2023-2024 school year. I value shared leadership, diversity, and a culture of belonging. I believe in the power of human connection and that we all play an important role in student success. I will strive to continue Mann’s legacy of excellence while guiding us to a more inclusive tomorrow.

I have been in education for the past 14 years starting off as a private school ML teacher for government workers and later for international students. After earning my public school teaching credentials in my Canadian hometown of Ottawa, I moved to the PNW to join my husband who was already working here as a software engineer. I have been an ML teacher/interventionist and 5th grade classroom teacher with highly capable students in a cluster model. In 2018, I earned my Masters in Educational Leadership from Seattle Pacific University and immediately joined LWSD. For the first two years I served as an associate principal for both Juanita and Helen Keller and then transitioned to Juanita full time for the past 3 years.

On a personal note, my husband Kamara and I live in Renton with our bubbly 6-month-old daughter, Zoë. Together we are loving our enhanced family unit. We are travel bugs and Zoë has already spent quality time in Florida, Mexico, and Canada. I’m a self-proclaimed foodie and enjoy the arts in all its forms.

I look forward to joining the community and to your partnership in serving students.

Yours in service,

Edie Brumant

Associate Principal Brian Dyson

Greetings! My name is Brian Dyson and I’m very excited to join the Horace Mann team as Associate Principal. I come to Redmond by way of Tacoma and Aberdeen, where I served as Assistant Principal and Dean of Students respectively. Before that, I taught band and orchestra for 11 years in Renton and Seattle and achieved National Board certification in 2020. Serving as a teacher leader during this time sparked my passion for school leadership, which ultimately led me to where I am today. Personally, as a proud Washingtonian, I grew up in Tacoma, attended college in Bellingham (with a stint in Georgia for my Masters), and worked throughout the state. Outside of school, you’ll likely find me jogging around town, enjoying the outdoors with my wife, or perusing the local record or book shop. We also love to travel, whether near or far, and frequently visit Denver to see my sister and her family.

As a leader, I believe in putting people first, exercising shared leadership, and seeking personal and professional growth. These values, among others, will guide my leadership as I lead for equitable learning environments for all students. I look forward to partnering with staff, students, and families in this work. Again, I’m so excited to join the Horace Mann community. Together, we can create opportunities for learners to grow and thrive. I look forward to a wonderful year for all our students.

Go Colts!
