Check Out Policy

Our checkout policy varies depending on which grade level the student is in.

Kindergarten students may borrow one book each week. Kindergarten books are due the following week.

1st grade students may borrow one book from the Everybody section each week. As the year progresses, students will be allowed to check out a second book.

2nd grade students may borrow two books each week. Second grade books are due the following week.

3rd & 4th grade students may borrow four books each week. Third and fourth grade books are due in two weeks.

5th grade students may borrow six books each week. Fifth grade books are due in two weeks.

Students are encouraged to check out only as many books as they will read during their checkout period.

Books may be renewed at the end of the checkout period, by bringing them to the library or sending them in the class library basket with a note requesting renewal. Books must be brought to the library to be renewed.

Students may exceed their checkout limit for classroom projects.

Students with books overdue may not check out any more books until the item(s) have been returned or paid for.

Items that are damaged or lost will be assessed a replacement fee.

Students that have outstanding items at the end of the year will not receive their report cards until the item(s) has been returned or paid for. If a family pays for a lost item and then the item is returned we will refund the payment, as long as it takes place during the same school year. Our yearly budgets are closed at the end of June.
Any student that has a question about an overdue book is encouraged to check with the Library staff right away.

Overdue notices are emailed to parents each week.

Library materials should be returned to the classroom baskets, which are brought to the Library each morning. Students do not need to wait until their Library class day to return materials.

We suggest that your child have a designated place at home for keeping track of Library books. The ability to select and return Library materials is a lifelong skill, and your child’s responsibility!
